ESS Helps U.S. Army Save $800K

Recently, Engineering Systems Solutions (ESS), Inc. implemented a strategic software procurement plan to capture $800K in savings for a U.S. Army Intelligence customer.
ESS had been buying and integrating computer and communication hardware for the U.S. Army, but recently the U.S. Army needed help procuring software kits to go with the hardware and turned to ESS for assistance. The U.S. Army customer needed to buy a suite of software including typical desktop software from Microsoft and very unique language translation and crime analysis software. To further complicate the solution, the Government wanted to procure previous versions of software that are no longer available to the general public.
ESS began this endeavor by researching all Government GSA and Enterprise Strategic Initiatives (ESI). The government has established pricing with many software companies through enterprise agreements. ESS used this knowledge when placing buys with the software companies to ensure that the U.S. Army customer received the best price available.
Then, ESS worked closely with each of the suppliers to ensure that the Government received the most value either through volume buys or through bundled licenses. Most software companies have various break points based on volume where the discounts increase. ESS ensured that the customer’s requirements were well understood and implemented so that the customer received exactly what they needed and did not pay for extras.
