ESS Scientist Addresses Air Force Space Symposium
Dr. Silke Spiesshoefer, Research Director for ESS’ Advanced Technologies Division, presented “Nanotechnology for Space Applications” at the Air Force Research Labs sponsored AMAPS (Advanced Microelectronics and Photonics for Space) Conference held in Tahoe, NV from June 9 – 12, 2009. This conference focused on the development and discussion of innovative space capabilities, through the application and insertion of advanced microelectronic and photonic technologies, to increase the performance and capabilities for future space systems while reducing size, weight, power and cost to the platform.
Nanotechnology is regarded world-wide as one of the key technologies of the 21st Century, and, due to its interdisciplinary character, nanotechnology will affect broad application fields within the ranges of chemistry/materials, medicine/life sciences, electronics/information technology, environmental and energy engineering, automotive manufacturing as well as optics/analytics and precision engineering.
ESS’ Advanced Technologies Division’s (ATD) purpose is to utilize mature research towards the development and enhancement of viable products for commercial, government and military use. Our current research emphasis areas are in power, sensors, materials and packaging.
